The first step to getting veneers involves a consultation with Dr. Eric Chai at Colesville Dentistry. During this appointment, Dr. Chai will discuss your aesthetic goals and evaluate whether veneers are right for you. This may involve x-rays and possibly making impressions of your mouth and teeth.
During your next visit, Dr. Chai will prepare your teeth for the veneers. This process involves removing about 1/2 millimeter of enamel from the tooth surface, which is nearly equal to the thickness of the veneer to be added. After the teeth are prepared, Dr. Chai will make a model or impression of your teeth, which is then sent out to a dental laboratory to construct your veneers. This process usually takes 2-4 weeks.
Once your veneers are ready, Dr. Chai will temporarily place them on your teeth to examine their fit and color, repeatedly removing and trimming them to achieve the perfect fit; he will then polish and etch your teeth to prepare them for bonding. A special cement is applied to the veneer which is then placed on your tooth. Once it is properly positioned, Dr. Chai will apply a special light to the veneer, activating chemicals in the cement causing it to harden quickly.
Veneers are an excellent way to makeover your smile. They can cover up a variety of dental imperfections including stains, chips, gaps, and misshapen teeth, providing you with a flawless smile. With veneers, your teeth can appear whiter and more symmetrical, boosting your overall confidence.
With proper care, porcelain veneers can last for more than a decade, making them a long-term investment in your smile. They are also more stain-resistant than resin veneers, ensuring that your smile stays bright for years to come. This durability makes veneers a low-maintenance option for maintaining your perfect smile.
Veneers may be used to treat minor chipping or breakage in the teeth, as long as the damage is limited to the outer layers of enamel and dentin. More serious tooth injuries may require the use of a dental crown and root canal therapy.
Veneers are also commonly used to treat and restore irregular or misshapen teeth, providing you with a straighter and more even smile.
Porcelain veneers are resistant to stains, ensuring your smile remains bright and beautiful.
